It’s Love Thursday at Chookooloonks!
I took this photo of my good friend Penny and her dh last night. If that doesn’t say love I don’t know what does.
Dissapointing news. We finally got through to the Ministry in Rwanda and have been told the reason we have been denied is that we don’t meet the requirements.
These are the requirements:
No more then 2 children already in the home
No divorces EVER
One Parent must be over 35
And parents must have been married for more than 5 years.
We are pretty confident that she made up these rules on the fly just so that she could deny us. We have spoken to someone who actually works for her and saw our dossiers and she says she’s seen other families go through that didn’t meet those. She says the Ministry is denying 50% of the petitions to adopt.
So Rwanda is officially out for everyone in our group. Those poor poor babies. 🙁

I’ve been emailing orphanages in Zambia and aid organizations that work with orphanages in Zambia and the thing I’m hearing the most is that there are no true orphans in Zambia. How can that be when they have the highest percentage of orphaned children in Africa you ask? Well, because they count “orphaned” children as children who have lost one or both parents. Also in Zambia the extended family automatically has legal custody of the children when the parents die. Most of the kids are only in orphanages for their baby years and then are reunited with extended family at age 2.
If it isn’t one thing it’s another right?Â

I feel really bad that I missed Love Thursday at Chookooloonks. So I know I’m a little late but I have such a great love photo that I dearly want to post it! Here is a pic of miss Rani with her favorite pal and best friend, her brother Oliver. Rani is almost a year older than Oliver but you’d never guess it by their size. 🙂
OK OK Just one more…..:-)

I still can’t believe that at this time two years ago we had just found out that we had guardianship of our sweet Rani and were preparing to take the trip to India to get her. What a road it has been since that time. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions, both good and bad, both happy and sad. And here we have come full circle and it’s like we never began but have always been. Rani is vivacious, lithe, beautiful, spunky, and just plain wonderful. We are so grateful to the Lord for guiding us to her…she is a sweet blessing in our lives. On the 31st she will be celebrating two years home and five years on this earth.
In honor of Rani’s fifth birthday and second “gotcha day” I have created this slideshow. It has almost all the pictures we have of Rani as a baby in the orphanage up until this week. Thank you so much to Shelba for the song idea…it’s just perfect. (it’s a Windows Media file so you might need Windows Media Player to play it)

So sorry it’s been so long since I have written. My hard drive crashed and I lost all my passwords. This one was hard to remember. I finally figured it out!
Updates on Rani
*Her gymnastic teacher moved so she isn’t currently taking gymnastics
*She has begun early reading lessons
*She is talking about India a lot and asking if we can paint her feet red…not so sure about this one. I have the paint but I don’t know how to do it.
*She is very happy and has forgotten almost everything about her life before Christmas last year. This is bittersweet for me, while I’m happy she doesn’t remember the pain of leaving, I’m sad she doesn’t remember India very well.
I’ll have more updates and pictures soon!
