Ugh another possible setback

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 12:07 pm

Apparantly the INS cabled our I171-H to the wrong city in India!!! I’m not sure what to do about it yet. We might end up having to file here anyway or paying $140 to have them send it to Delhi.

A little scare

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 11:06 pm

Well, everyone has been telling me that if I file for the I-600 (orphan petition for the US) in Delhi that I could leave as soon as the guardianship papers arrive. I was so excited, because I thought that we may have a chance to get there for her birthday!

BUT when I contacted my agency they said that there is a law in some states that require you to file for an ICPC (Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children) after you get the guardianship papers! Oh my goodness, I remember now that a girl I know on an adoption forum had the ICPC hold her up for months! My heart sank and I started convincing myself that with the luck I’ve had so far, it was likely to happen that way for us too.

So I researched and found an email adress for the person who runs the ICPC office here in salt lake. I told them my situation and they replied back saying that they’d be able to OK the referral the SAME DAY they get documentation!!! So there is still hope!!!:pray

Five Weeks Tomorrow

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 3:06 pm

As of tomorrow our papers will have been in open court for five weeks! Court has been taking about six weeks. I’m feeling so anxious and nervous! I’m praying so fervently that nothing else will go wrong with our case. That we will get guardianship within the next week or two and be planning a trip to India!

Good news as well…after 3 yrs and 3 months of tribulation, my good friend Chery’s husband is FINALLY bringing home their daughter from Pune India! I keep telling myself, it could be worse and if they can survive it, so can I!

Nothing new

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 11:06 pm

Just wanted to let everyone know that there’s nothing new.

I’m waiting for Kathy to develop the pictures from her trip. I can’t wait to see them!

Teri is heading out to Basundhara on Tuesday. I feel so badly that I didn’t send a gift for Rani. I know she just got a bunch, but I hate for someone to visit her without a gift from Mom.

As of Tuesday our papers have been in the courts for four weeks. It usually takes four to six weeks for guardianship so I’m hoping to hear word soon.

Feelin’ low

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 6:05 pm

Just heard from my agency that the Orissa courts close tomorrow without having seen our case. They don’t reopen until the 10th of June, which means our case won’t be heard until the 10th or later than that. It’s extremely doubtful that we will be able to travel before her birthday. :grumpy

Hallelujah! OH HAPPY DAY!

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 9:04 am

Akshay emailed my agency last night!!!! He finally has Rani’s No Objection Certificate in hand!!!! There are tears of joy in India this day and tears of joy here at her new home! He says he’s not going to let a ray of sunshine touch that paper before it’s actually in the courts! Oh I am so relieved and happy! This part of the process took us seven long gruelling months. It usually takes only 2 months. Know one knows why it took so long, but the Lord knows and I’m sure it’s all a part of His plan. I’ve been oh so patient and now I can finally breathe a sigh of relief! Oh hallelujah! Happy Happy DAY!!!!!

Now let’s pray that our guardianship process goes more smoothly than the NOC process did. :pray

Why adoptions in India take so long

Thought I better update a little…

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 7:04 pm

I can’t say much, but what I can say is that we have been told that we will recieve our No Objection Certificate at the next meeting! I’m so grateful and I’m saying many prayers of thanks to The Father. :pray We won’t rejoice for certain until we actually have it, but I’m so grateful that it seems there is finally an end in sight!

After the NOC we apply for legal guardianship of Rani which could take 1-3 months. Probably more like 2-3 because the courts shut down a lot in April, May, and June(of course :wink) And after we recieve guardianship it will likely be another month till we can travel. We really wanted to travel in June, but it’s looking more like July or August realistically.

Rani turns 3 on July 31st. Oh how I’d love to spend her birthday with her!!!
