I passed my exam of course. The midwife was really excited for us. She recommended me for adoption “without hesitation” She also really praised me on my weight loss which is always nice to hear. So, I am mailing those tomorrow and we should be going on the whole homestudy thing! Yay!

Wish me luck

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 8:05 am

I’m off to my medical appointment in an hour or so. I’m a little nervous, but excited too. I haven’t seen my midwife since last June and I’m hoping she will be excited as we are about the adoption. I can’t wait to really get going on the homestudy interviews. I think I’m actually looking forward to them. I still haven’t sent in my official application to AIAA yet because the pictures aren’t done. Yikes I need to hurry up on those. If I can get them done quickly we can start assembling our dossier at the same time we do our homestudy. Please keep us in your prayers. I’m feeling a little down today for some reason. My baby is one today and I want to meet Rani so badly. As Rolie Polie Olie would say, I’m feeling Bluesie and Snoozie 🙂

AIAA application

Filed under: The Paper Trail — Tamra @ 5:05 pm

We got the “official” application from AIAA today! Woohoo! I am surprised at how many pictures I need to send though. Wow. 2 pictures of us as a family together, and one picture of each of the members of the family separately, and a picture of our house! Our house looks so small from the front. It’s 2550 sq ft. though. I wish I didn’t have to send a pic of my house *sigh*

Also, we’ve realized that we will probably need $8,000 by the end of next month! Yipes! Gotta get movin’ on the fundraising activities. Guess I better start out with the WAHM raffle since that’s the easiest. If you know anyone who would like to donate and/or buy tickets that would be so helpful! Also there is a link to donate with Paypal if you have an extra $5 you can spare. Thanks so much!

He passed He passed woohoo!

The obesity was noted but he recommended him as “fit to adopt”! Yay! What a relief. Now only mine to go on Tuesday before we can start the homestudy interviews.

Oh OH OH….and we may have found “the” name! DH didn’t argue with this one! LOL

Ahrana Zilpha Hyde

I love it! I was telling someone about Rani today and after being told her name said “Arani? That’s beautiful!” And inside I’m like “That’s it! :-)”

First Medical

I am sitting her praying and praying today. It’s David’s physical and I’m praying that the Dr. will give him a clean bill of health for our adoption. My DH is overweight but otherwise healthy and this is the final hurdle for me. I sent a pictur of Rani for him along with the paperwork and I hope he is able to feel in his heart that adopting her is what we are supposed to do and that he will do all he can to help us. Pray with me please! 🙂 Much appreciation.

I found the best site!

Filed under: Indian Culture — Tamra @ 3:05 pm

Thanks Karoline for sending it to me. There are literally hundereds of books about India! I purchased The Martina doll (16″ doll with a sindur mark on her forehead), a book about teenage Indian refugees, and a children’s book entitled “Anni’s Journal”. I wanted so many more things! I’m sure I will be purchasing more in the future. I’ve been searching for a way to teach my boys about India, and to learn of it myself so that I can keep Rani’s culture strong and alive inside her. This is wonderful! They also have books and items from many other cultures. The site is called Culture for Kids.

Dave and I are still no closer on her name. I did find out that Gandha means fragrant, so now she’s a fragrant queen 🙂 Sigh, I figure it’s got to be a form of Rajanigandha or Rajnigandha which means night blossoming scented flower. That’s pretty nice. I definately lean toward Rania which also means queen. Dave is pretty set on keeping it at Ranigandha though. Maybe Ranigandha Zilpha? Zilpha is my great-grandmother’s name.

I couldn’t wait to put up a picture…

Filed under: How did we find Rani? — Tamra @ 3:05 pm

So I distorted it on the computer so that I felt more comfortable placing it on this site. As soon as I get my drawing done I will put it up instead. Isn’t she beautiful? I am so excited! I wish I could get everything done faster. It feels like I’m trudging through mud. I want her home with us so much!

What’s in a name?

Filed under: How did we find Rani? — Tamra @ 12:05 am

What to do…what to do… I mean Ranigandha is a beautiful name, but it is a trifle long and pretty hard to pronounce. It’s pronounced Rah-nih-gun-duh. Most people I’ve talked to think it’s just fine to change an adopted child’s name. In fact I’ve noticed that most people do change them. I really like the nick name Rani and would like to keep it, so I came up with a few other names like Raina, Rania, Rahna, etc that were shorter yet still allowed the Rani nick. DH VETOED them! He wants to keep her name the same. Fine I say and start thinking of middle names. I come up with nada and decide ok how about Ann Ranigandha and we call her Rani still. DH says No, yet he has no personal preferences to lay out on the table. If we use a different middle name I’d really like it to be one syllable since Ranigandha is so long. I love middle names so I don’t really want to just leave her at Ranigandha Hyde KWIM? *sigh* What to do….what to do….

A picture a picture! We got a picture!

Filed under: How did we find Rani? — Tamra @ 9:05 pm

She is breathtakingly beautiful! And it’s so amazing she looks like my boys!!! She has a heart shaped face, a tiny indent in her chin, big brown eyes, and Xander’s nose! She is so much lighter than I was picturing. I really thougth she’d be dark but her skin tone is about the same as my husbands. Its the most beautiful olive color! Oh my gosh I am in love! My heart is full to bursting for this little one, thousands of miles away who has no idea that we are thinking of her and praying for her and wishing she was here. Teri was right not to give me the picture before they said yes. My heart would’ve been broken to pieces.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post her picture at a public site. So as soon as my friend prints me out a picture I’m going to draw her and post it. 🙂

We are all on cloud nine here!
