Well, everyone has been telling me that if I file for the I-600 (orphan petition for the US) in Delhi that I could leave as soon as the guardianship papers arrive. I was so excited, because I thought that we may have a chance to get there for her birthday!

BUT when I contacted my agency they said that there is a law in some states that require you to file for an ICPC (Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children) after you get the guardianship papers! Oh my goodness, I remember now that a girl I know on an adoption forum had the ICPC hold her up for months! My heart sank and I started convincing myself that with the luck I’ve had so far, it was likely to happen that way for us too.

So I researched and found an email adress for the person who runs the ICPC office here in salt lake. I told them my situation and they replied back saying that they’d be able to OK the referral the SAME DAY they get documentation!!! So there is still hope!!!:pray

I was informed this morning by an email from Teri in India that our court date was yesterday and SHE’S OURS!!!!!!! We finally got legal guardianship of Rani!!!!

The hard thing is, there is still time to wait for the guardianship papers to be sent and to file for her passport and visas. We still don’t have definate travel dates.

But she’s mine! Legally! And no one can take her away!!!!!!!

As of tomorrow our papers will have been in open court for five weeks! Court has been taking about six weeks. I’m feeling so anxious and nervous! I’m praying so fervently that nothing else will go wrong with our case. That we will get guardianship within the next week or two and be planning a trip to India!

Good news as well…after 3 yrs and 3 months of tribulation, my good friend Chery’s husband is FINALLY bringing home their daughter from Pune India! I keep telling myself, it could be worse and if they can survive it, so can I!

She is such a little character! Her hair is a lot longer now, and she was wearing red lipstick that she had obviously applied herself. I wish I could share them with you! I can’t post her pics on a public webpage, but if you want to see her, post a comment and I’ll email you one.

Just wanted to let everyone know that there’s nothing new.

I’m waiting for Kathy to develop the pictures from her trip. I can’t wait to see them!

Teri is heading out to Basundhara on Tuesday. I feel so badly that I didn’t send a gift for Rani. I know she just got a bunch, but I hate for someone to visit her without a gift from Mom.

As of Tuesday our papers have been in the courts for four weeks. It usually takes four to six weeks for guardianship so I’m hoping to hear word soon.

It worked!!! The prayers and fasting worked!!! They were told YES today!!!

We could still use your prayers though, as the little baby is very sick and almost died! Please pray for their family and the little baby!

Adoption Journal Webring

We just recieved word that the family-I’m-sitting-for’s petition to adopt was denied by the Ethiopian courts because of family size…They wrote a letter to the court explaining how they CAN care and love 18 kids. They go before the court again on Monday.

PLEASE pray for this family. The oldest boy they are adopting allready feels like a “soul brother” to the one allready in their family. It would absolutely break his heart if he didn’t get to come home! Tomorrow (Sunday) we will be fasting and praying for these kids and for the Ethiopian courts. Please join with us and let’s PRAY THESE CHILDREN HOME!!!!

My good IRL friend who is adopting a little girl from India who is the same age as Rani, is finally getting her little girl! They are hoping that gotcha day will be Olivia’s 3rd birthday, June 18th. Please join me in saying congratulations and safe journey!!!
